Summary

Rani Abbakka was a fearless queen who ruled Ullal on the coast of Karnataka in the sixteenth century. When the powerful Portuguese tried to seize her land and control trade, she refused to surrender. She built a strong army, formed alliances and led her people in battle with great courage. For many years she defended her kingdom and defeated the invaders several times. She is remembered as one of the earliest freedom fighters of India and a symbol of bravery and patriotism.
